NCTS Race #03 – Crater Trail Run

What a great day up in Decorah for the Crater Trail Run, race #03 in this year’s No Coast Trail Series! Beautiful trails, gnarly & challenging courses and a ton of wonderful trail people made for an awesome weekend up north! NCTS runners tackled 5k, 10k, 25k or 50k distances and as a result, the series standings got a big shake-up with Trail to Ultra division changes and big points being tallied across the board!

Congratulations to all of the Crater runners and especially to those running their longest distance race on the trails ever! The Trail Sisters (82.8 ) have taken over 1st place in the Club Division with Thorsday TC (76.3) moving into 2nd place and the The Runner’s Flat (65.6) rounding out the current podium in 3rd!

NCTS 2020 Wrap-Up!

The 7th year of the No Coast Trail Series came and went in what will likely be considered one of the most historic years of our lifetimes. While trail running means absolutely nothing to the vast majority of the world and is barely a blip on the radar for most of society when compared to the huge obstacles and issues being faced by so many, this ‘hobby’ has found its place among those who crave something more. Those who crave connection. To nature. To others. To oneself. Those who crave challenge. Against the demons in their head. Against their friends and peers. But most importantly, trail running belongs to those who crave a simpler way of life. A stripped down opportunity to be ones true self. To connect OR to disconnect. To challenge OR to accept.
Simply to be. To live. To exist.

Despite the challenges faced by race organizers over this rollercoaster of a year, a majority of the events were still able to safely take place and runners were provided small pockets of normalcy to do what we love the most, run some trails!

Amazing job to all No Coast participants this year! Special congratulations to all division award winners and to LoKeyz for winning the newly added Club Division!
A huge thank you and fist bump to all of the hard working race organizers this year with the biggest thanks reserved for the incredible volunteers who stepped up in the most trying of times to ensure the preservation of our little community. THANK YOU!!!

Attention all division award winners! I’ll be in contact via email to make arrangements to get you your NCTS Hydro Flask division trophy!
Thank you!
Josh

We can hardly believe that 2020 will mark the 7th year for the series and what an incredible journey it’s been so far! We have a couple updates and changes to the series that we’re very excited to announce!
-The Doggone Tired Ultra will be joining the No Coast series this year as race #09 on September 26th. Doggone takes places in Vinton, Iowa in and around Rodgers Park on a mix of trails, dirt and gravel roads and offers a 50k as well as a 10mi option. It’s a very homegrown, grassroots race on a fun course that gives runners a little bit of everything!
-The Hawkeye 50k/25k will also be adding a 10mi distance option for 2020!
-On top of the normal series structure and individual points, 2020 will see the introduction of an optional Club Division that runners can participate in! Runners can choose to affiliate with a running club, group, team, etc. at sign-up and the Club with the most combined points from all members wins a traveling trophy and bragging rights for a full race season! Further details can be found here at the bottom of the page: https://nocoasttrailseries.com/how-it-works/

NCTS 2019 Wrap-Up!

2019 marked the 6th year of the No Coast Trail Series and with it, another incredible year of running trails all over the state of Iowa! Seeing this wonderful community of races, runners, organizers and volunteers continue to grow and evolve into what it is today, has been a rich and rewarding experience. THANK YOU!

Mother Nature has been in full rebellious teenager mode all year and unfortunately caused the cancellation of two great fall events this year. The series still however showcased 9 independent and top quality trail running events and offered 22 different distances with 50 hardy No Coast runners racing at least 3 events throughout the year and being eligible for division awards!

INCREDIBLE job to all No Coast participants this year and special congratulations to all division winners!

Attention all division award winners! I’ll be in contact via email to make arrangements to get you your NCTS Hydro Flask division trophy!

NCTS Race #09 – Mines of Spain 100

The 2019 No Coast Trail Series wrapped up this past weekend in Dubuque with race #9 at the Mines of Spain 100 and what an epic closeout to an incredible year of racing on the No Coast! Gorgeous fall weather complimented a beautiful course that included some challenging water crossings and big Dubuque hills! 100mi and 100k runners alike really had to buckle down and see what they were made of to reach that finish line but the reward was definitely worth the challenge!

Congratulations to each and every runner and special kudos go out to the No Coast runners Michala Mielke (100mi/3rd), Ross Salinas (100k/2nd) and Mike Van Hulle (100k/3rd) for taking top places as well as to all of the first time 100k and 100mi finishers!
