NCTS Race #09 and Series Wrap-up

The Runner’s Flat trail races over the weekend capped off another fun and exciting year of racing trails on the No Coast! A more challenging alternate course due to flooding made for a beautiful and fun race day as runners tackled everything from 8k to the 50k ultra marathon distance!

2016 was No Coast’s 3rd year as a series and once again, we’ve seen incredible growth in participation from previous years with runners from all over the great state of Iowa supporting this wonderful community of trail running right in our backyard.

We had 276 registered runners participate in 9 events across 22 different distance races!
Of these, there were 55 tough & dedicated runners who completed 3 or more No Coast races making them eligible for awards given in 8 different divisions.
Many award placings came down to the last race making for an exciting finish to an already incredible year!

Some special shout outs:
-Tim Bergan & Michelle Steele for capturing overall male & female for the series this year! Each ran four Ultra distance events as well as a couple Trail distances apiece and no matter what they were running, they always had a smile on their face and time to chat with fellow trail runners. Congrats you two!
-Denise Whiting, Wendy Foote, Ross Salinas and Tim Bergan. These four amazing trail runners have not only participated in the series every year but they have also won a division award all three years with Tim B. winning top overall male for the 2nd year in a row this year and Ross S. having ran a total of 20 No Coast races in 3 years, more than any other runner!
-Devin Allbaugh for just crushing every No Coast race he ran this year! 1st place at B&B, Mines of Spain, Pleasant Creek as well as at his first 50k at The Runner’s Flat! Along the way, setting course records at each event. Impressive Devin!
-Troy Brehm and Dean & Jill Schwickerath ran in EVERY SINGLE one of the nine No Coast races this year making them the first 3 runners in series history to do so!
-Families that run trails together, kick butt together! Dave & Cathy Steines as well as the entire Schwickerath family (Dean, Jill and their incredible 10 year old daughter Lily) all won division awards this year!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the amazing runners, race organizers and volunteers that have made No Coast such a fun and challenging series to be a part of. What an awesome year of running dirt on the No Coast!

Attention all division award winners! No Coast will NOT be at the Wildcat trail runs this year. I’ll be in contact via email to make arrangements to get you your NCTS Hydro Flask division trophy!

Thank you!

Josh

NCTS Race #08 – Swiss Valley Trail Run

Wet trails, big climbs and good times! That sums up Saturday’s Swiss Valley Trail Run and race #08 in the series pretty well! I personally was able to participate in this year’s event and from my perspective and all the other smiling No Coast faces I talked to, everyone had a great time running the challenging 5mi, 10mi and 25k races at Swiss Valley complete with big hills, creek crossings, scary/fun fast & wet technical descents and delicious post race walking tacos!

With only one race left in the series, point standings are down to the wire with most of the 8 divisions having award places determined by the last race! Who will race, who won’t. What distance? How fast? These are the questions that will determine who wins a coveted NCTS award and who doesn’t.
Standings have been updated and can be viewed at www.nocoasttrailseries.com/standings
Please note, since a runner must complete at least three (3) races to be eligible for awards, any runners that have only ran one race to this point have been moved to a separate tab in the standings document to allow for more clear and concise award standings.

Online registration for The Runner’s Flat (https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=38309) closes tomorrow (Tuesday) night so make sure to get signed up ASAP! You can also sign up in person Friday night or Saturday morning at packet pickup. The recent flooding has forced a change in course for TRF this year but RD Scott Gall & the gang sound like they have it under control and are going to put on another great event as always. Check their FB/site for more info.
